The Impact of the U.S.-Iran War on the Global Economy Financial Markets, and People's Livelihoods

Western Muslims Flood into Mecca for Hajj Despite Ongoing Middle East Tensions; Trump Signals Imminent Peace Accord

Amidst gathering war clouds in the Middle East, a large number of Western Muslims have still traveled to Saudi Arabia to prepare for the Islamic Hajj pilgrimage. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated after phone calls with Middle Eastern leaders that an agreement has been largely finalized, with details currently being discussed and an announcement expected in the near future.

Large Numbers of Western Muslims Flock to Hajj Despite Ongoing Conflicts

Even though the U.S. government has issued travel warnings, a massive influx of Western Muslims has still arrived in Saudi Arabia, preparing to partake in the Hajj pilgrimage kicking off on the 25th of this month.

Fadel, a 49-year-old American pilgrim, told AFP that he never once doubted whether he would attend this year's Hajj. "Even if the war is still ongoing, I will not cancel my trip," he said, quoting the Koran to express his faith: "Without a doubt, we are in the safest place in the world."

While both the U.S. and Iran stated yesterday that a deal could be finalized soon, fears remain that hostilities could reignite at any moment. Amid this uncertainty, the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh advised American citizens last month to avoid participating in the pilgrimage: "Given the current security situation and occasional travel disruptions, we advise you to reconsider whether to attend the Hajj this year."

Trump: U.S.-Iran Deal Largely Finalized, Strait of Hormuz to Reopen

A glimmer of hope has emerged for a U.S.-Iran peace accord. Following phone calls with several Middle Eastern leaders yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump posted that an agreement has been largely hammered out, with the final aspects and details currently under discussion and scheduled to be announced soon. He also noted that the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping lane, will be reopened.

Earlier yesterday, Trump stated in an interview with American media that U.S. and Iranian negotiators are getting "closer and closer" to finalizing an agreement to end the war in the Middle East.

Yesterday afternoon, Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, writing that he had "very good" phone calls earlier with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain, as well as Pakistan's Army Chief, General Asim Munir.
